Zoloft (sertraline) is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) intended for the treatment of such conditions as depression, social anxiety disorders, panic or anxiety disorder and a number of others as recommended by your doctor. You can take it with some food if your stomach gets easily upset. Make sure you take this drug at the same time daily without skipping doses, as otherwise it can take you longer to benefit from the treatment. An overdose of Zoloft is dangerous and you need to seek emergency medical help if you notice the following overdose symptoms: dizziness, agitation, tremor, drowsiness, nausea and vomiting, coma, seizure, irregular heartbeats, high or low blood pressure and fainting.

This medicine is not recommended for expectant mothers as it can cause serious lung problems in newborn babies. However, if you become pregnant you should first talk to your doctor. Stopping the treatment suddenly can cause a relapse of depression. All the risks and benefits should be weighed to make sure you make the right decision. Contact your health care provider if your condition becomes worse and you experience panic attacks, anxiety, restlessness, irritability, aggressiveness, mental or physical hyperactivity, agitation, mood swings, behavior changes and suicidal thoughts. Zoloft can be taken with some food or without.
